Bigger Together: Our BBBSA National Conference

This year, for the first time in the agency’s history, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas had the opportunity to send the agency’s full team to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s national conference. Held June 26-31 in Anaheim, California, this year’s theme was A Bold Path to a Big Future.

“I was so inspired!”, “It was great hearing ideas from other agencies,” “The stories were powerful,” “I learned so much!” These were just a few of the reactions from BBBS of Central Texas staff who participated.

Special grant funds designated for professional development and training purposes provided the local BBBS team with this rich opportunity to network, gain insight from agencies across the U.S. and Canada, and learn new skills and strategies to strengthen the agency’s work. Sessions included ideas for improving recruitment of Bigs, engaging donors, and exploring the mental health benefits of peer-to-peer support, to name but a few topics. The conference also provided an important team-building opportunity for our Central Texas staff as well.

New ideas, new energy, stronger bonds – it was four days well spent.
