Bowling in Style
What do Austin Powers, The Jetsons, Obi Wan Kenobi, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, Fred Flintstone, Scooby Doo & Friends, Blackbeard the Pirate, a Stormtrooper, and the Beatles all have in common? They’ve all been to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl for Kids of course!
At least their alter egos have been, as Bowl for Kids cosplay has been as big a part of the event as bowling itself. Every year teams get into the event theme as they try to outdo each other with costumes and fundraising. Team Lucky Strikes, for example, won the Best Costume award in their time slot for four years in a row. An achievement they were very proud of.
“The theme and costumes along with bowling, which most people don’t do regularly, make it a fun night out,” said Mark and Lori Ramseur, who were Chairs of the Bowl for Kids event at the time. “It is funny seeing all the crazy costumes that people come up with. We are always surprised by the creativity.”
In 2010, the Bowl for Kids theme was rock ‘n roll-related and featured plenty of inflatable guitars, keyboards, and a surprise appearance by a team decked out like the band Devo. The following year participants wore tiaras to reflect the Prom Night theme.
2013 was the 30th anniversary of Bowl for Kids and featured a Flashback to 1983 theme. Ghostbusters and Pac Man outfits dominated the event.
In 2014, however, Bowl for Kids costumes began to achieve legendary status. 2014 was the year of the Cowboys vs Zombies theme and monsters, fake body parts, and cowboy hats were all the rage.
Peruse our photo album and remember some of the fun outfits of yesteryear as participants enjoyed Bowl for Kids’ Galactic Bowl; Peace, Love & Bowling; Pirates; Dinosaurs; Beach Party; and our Saved By The Bowl 90’s party theme.
The theme for this year? The Best of the West. So, get your 10-gallon cowboy hat ready, cause no Texan wants to miss out on boots and bowling! We can’t wait to see what the best dressed bowlers will be wearing this year!
